These comic Bollards are part of a collection of well over 100 beautifully conceived and crafted figures (most depicting local historical characters or stereotypes from the days of 'Old Geelong') They are by the local artist (a person of obvious genius), Jan Mitchell. Sadly, Jan passed away quite recently These Bollard Figures are strikingly larger than life and mostly provide a humourously unique adornment to the foreshore of Corio Bay and a few other select locations in and around Geelong (including the magnificent Dame Nellie Melba at Avalon Airport). I have a (probably hugely over-ambitious) mission to eventually produce a video-musical tribute for all of these figures, but have only made a handful so far ! I hope if you happen to see this, it may inspire some of you to pay us a visit in this totally laid-back and fun-loving city of ours!
